I woke up this morning...
No, I'm not going to sing a blues song. Quite the opposite, although I did start the day on a down note, a change of perspective set me on a completely different course.
As I was saying, I woke up this morning, just before sunrise and noted that for the first time in recent memory, there were no clouds in the sky at this time of day. I was excited to be able to watch the sun rise. Although my wife and some of my friends probably think I'm crazy, it's actually one of my favorite things to do. This morning, however, was awfully cold-34 degrees- so I would be watching it from the warmth of my kitchen.
I thought about how a year ago, I was watching the sun rise over Florida. The temperature was about 30 degrees warmer and I was on my morning walk with Buzz, my German Shorthaired Pointer, looking at this:
I started to feel down about the fact that I was standing in my kitchen instead of outdoors, it was about freezing outside, I was about to watch the sun come up over my neighbor's house rather than a beach, and Buzz was still in bed...MY bed, under the covers, where I could be.
After the sun rose, I logged into Facebook and saw several posts from friends back in New England, who were complaining about having to shovel 10" of snow in order to get to their cars so they could commute to work. Suddenly, I didn't feel so badly. I was sitting in my living room, which was now bathed in sunlight, while family and friends were miserably enduring one of the things that caused me to leave New England.
The forecast for Raleigh today is 55 degrees and sunny. From my new point of view, that makes for a pretty good day.
